Frequently Asked Questions Q. What if I’ve never fished on Lake Michigan before?
No problem! While the fish we catch can be pretty big, the rods and reels we use are sturdy and easy to learn. We will always make sure you get plenty of instruction on using the equipment and fighting the fish.
Q. Why should we choose Kenosha for our fishing charter?
According to the Department of Natural Resources Charter Reports, Kenosha has the highest catch-per-charter rate of all the ports on Lake Michigan’s west side.
Q. What kind of fishing license are we required to have?
Anyone 16 years or older is required to have either an annual fishing license (with Great Lakes Stamp) or a two-day license (resident or non-resident) which costs $14.00, but does not require a stamp.
Q. What do we need to bring on a fishing charter?
Soft-soled shoes, casual attire, jacket and/or raingear (if needed), sunglasses, food and beverage for your group, camera, and a large cooler to transport your fish home. All fishing gear is provided.
Q. Are children welcome?
Children are certainly welcome! While it’s up to the parent’s discretion, we usually recommend that children be at least 9 years old.
Q. How many fish can we expect to catch?
The number of fish you’ll catch on a charter is primarily dictated by time of year and, to a lesser extent, weather. All in all, the RESOLUTE averaged just over 17 fish per charter for all of last season. For more detailed information, see our “best time” page.
Q. Who’s going to clean all these fish?
Don’t worry! At the end of your charter, you’ll have a choice of getting your fish gutted or filleted. While other charter services charge up to $2.00 per fish, we include fish cleaning as part of our service!
Q. What happens if we have bad weather?
Remember, your safety and comfort is our number 1 priority. In the event the lake is too rough to fish, we will do our best to notify you in advance. Your deposit will be refunded or forwarded to an alternative date. We do fish in the rain, so bring your raingear!
Q. What else does the Kenosha Area have to offer?
Aside from world-class sport fishing, the Kenosha area has numerous other points of interest such as: Dairyland Greyhound Track, designer and outlet mall shopping, excellent public and private golf courses, Great America (20 minutes), the Kenosha Public Museum, the Kenosha Lakeshore Trolley, not to mention several fine harbor side restaurants and pubs.
